Many riders arrive in Cape Town hoping to ride a Harley-Davidson. The coast roads, the peninsula and the Winelands suit a relaxed cruiser, as long as the motorcycle is matched to the day you have in mind.
Which Harley for which ride
For a day ride on the peninsula, the Atlantic coast or in the Winelands, a cruiser such as the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is a natural choice. For a journey of three, five or nine days, a touring model such as the Street Glide offers more comfort over long distances.
These models are examples. The motorcycles come from our rental partners, depend on their availability and are confirmed with you before booking.
Riding a cruiser on these roads
A cruiser invites a steady pace: feet forward, a relaxed posture, time to look around. That suits the coast road towards Hout Bay, the long stretches towards Cape Point and the vineyard valleys.
In mountain passes and tight bends, the approach is calmer than on an adventure motorcycle. Exposed sections can bring strong wind, especially near the Cape. Luggage space is limited on the lighter models, so travel light for a day ride.
When another motorcycle makes more sense
If your plans include gravel stretches, or if you prefer a more upright position, an adventure motorcycle such as the BMW F 850 GS may suit the itinerary better. Mathis can help you choose, based on the route, your experience and the season.
Tell us which model appeals to you when you get in touch. Mathis guides every ride and photographs the day, so you can concentrate on the road.
