A motorcycle journey is also shaped by the places where you stop. These five destinations can be spread across one or more rides, depending on how much time you have.
Hout Bay — Time at the harbour
Hout Bay fits naturally into an Atlantic coast ride. The harbour offers a change of pace, with time for coffee or lunch before continuing to Chapman’s Peak. Allow a proper stop rather than treating it as another point on the map.
Boulders — Visiting the penguin colony
At Boulders Beach, boardwalks lead to viewpoints overlooking the penguin colony. Park the motorcycles and allow time for the walk. The visit works well as part of a peninsula day, before or after Cape Point according to the route.
Cape Point — Exploring on foot
The approach is part of the experience, but the visit deserves time after the bike is parked. Choose viewpoints and walks to suit the weather and your plans. If you also want to visit the Cape of Good Hope, allow for a separate stop.
Franschhoek — A break in the Winelands
Time in the village balances a day on the vineyard and mountain roads. Lunch gives you a chance to enjoy the stop before setting off again. Estate visits need their own arrangements, especially where a tasting is being considered.
Hermanus — More time beside the sea
Hermanus makes a natural overnight stop on a longer journey. After the ride, explore the seafront on foot and settle into a different pace. Whale sightings depend on the season and the animals present; the coastline is worth exploring without making wildlife encounters a promise.
